What is Modern Jive?Modern Jive is a simple, easy to learn partner dance. It can best be described as a fusion of several dance styles that include: latin, jive and dirty dancing.... Please click below to view more information about Modern Jive.. I have never danced before or I have 2 left feet. Can I still learn?Absolutely. Modern Jive is a fun, easy to learn partner dance and we will endeavour to have you dancing a few moves by the end of your first class. It will usually take you a few classes to get the hang of it all. The more you practice the easier it will become. Do I need a partner?No, you do not have to bring a partner, we will partner you up and rotate you around ever few minutes throughout the class. You will get to dance with everyone over the course of the evening. I have a partner and we prefer not to rotate. Can we still come?Yes, we do cater for this, however it is suggested you rotate in order to gain helpful tips from the more experienced dancers. If you have a reason that you do not wish to rotate please inform us at the start of the night and we will place you accordingly. As the other students rotate you will remain with your partner. What age do I have to be to start dancing?Currently we are only able to offer classes for over 18's. In the future we hope to make provisions for 16+. Do I need to book in?No, there is no requirement to book. Simply turn up to any class and enjoy a fun filled evening of dancing. What is the format for a typical dance class?The typical night starts at 7:15 with the beginner class starting at 7:30. The night usually finishes around 10:30. Do I have to do consecutive classes?No, The classes are not set up in a course format so missing a class will not disadvantage you, however, the more practice and effort you put in the quicker your dancing will progress. What shoes should I wear?Comfortable shoes that will allow you to spin on the dance floor. Suede or leather soled shoes are most suitable. What clothing should I wear?Comfortable casual clothing that will enable you to move freely. How long should it take to progress to the next level?Usually 8-12 weeks of consistent attendance and participation should be plenty to progress. Time taken may vary depending on the amount of social dancing and practice you do outside of class. Do you have social nights?Yes we do, social nights are organised from time to time. Do I have to stretch and warm up before class?Central Coast Modern Jive does not conduct a stretch/warm up and it is therefore up to the individual. We do recommend that if you have any muscle injuries or plan to perform moves that are aerial by nature or difficult that you stretch appropriately. Is it expensive to learn?Absolutely NOT!! It is a very cheap and fun social night out for under $15. There are no term fees or hidden fees. Purchasing a class pass or a beginner package will save you even more money.
